Follow these steps to make the classic layered and grilled Crunchwrap Supreme at home, featuring seasoned beef, nacho cheese, and a crispy tostada shell.
Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid reduces. Set aside.
Warm the 8 large tortillas briefly in a microwave or dry skillet to make them pliable.
Lay one large tortilla flat. Place a small tortilla in the center.
Spread about 2 tablespoons of nacho cheese sauce onto the center of the small tortilla.
Place one tostada shell directly on top of the cheese.
Spoon about 1/8th of the seasoned beef mixture onto the tostada shell.
Top the beef with a layer of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and diced onion, if using.
Place a second small, warmed tortilla on top of the fillings. This acts as the top layer before folding.
Begin folding the edges of the large tortilla up and over the center stack, creating overlapping pleats to form a hexagonal shape. Press firmly to seal the edges against the center.
Heat a large, dry skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the folded wrap seam-side down onto the hot skillet.
Grill for 2 to 3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and sealed.
Carefully flip the wrap and grill the other side for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown.
Repeat the assembly and grilling process for the remaining wraps.
Notes
For a more authentic flavor, use a homemade taco seasoning blend of chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder.
You can prepare the beef filling ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
If you do not have small corn tostada shells, you can use a small flour tortilla that has been lightly brushed with oil and baked or pan-fried until crisp.
