Ingredients
Scale
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons heavy cream (or milk)
Instructions
Place the softened cream cheese and softened butter into a large mixing bowl. Beat them together with an electric mixer until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Add the vanilla extract and salt to the creamed mixture and mix until just combined.
Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until incorporated. Increase the speed to medium and beat until smooth.
Add the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, beating until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. If you prefer a thicker frosting, use less cream.
Beat the frosting on medium-high speed for 2 to 3 minutes until it is light and fluffy. Use immediately on warm cinnamon rolls.
Notes
Use full-fat cream cheese and butter for the best texture.
Make sure both the cream cheese and butter are truly at room temperature to prevent lumps.
If the frosting becomes too thick, add cream a teaspoon at a time until it loosens slightly.
