A recipe for a rich, fudgy chocolate chess pie with a traditional buttery crust. This dessert offers a classic Southern comfort flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Place the unbaked pie crust on a baking sheet.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the first 1 cup of sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Add the melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 cup of sugar, corn syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and whisk until the batter is smooth. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour the chocolate filling into the unbaked pie crust.
  7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the center is mostly set but still slightly jiggly.
  8. Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • You can use a graham cracker crust for a different texture, but adjust baking time if necessary.
  • For a fudgier texture, slightly reduce the corn syrup amount by one tablespoon.
  • Chill the pie for at least 2 hours before serving for the best slice.
