Make flavorful, buttery rice quickly on the stovetop using simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
  • 1 3/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the butter melts.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  3. Add the uncooked rice to the saucepan. Stir constantly for 1 to 2 minutes to toast the rice lightly.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Remove the lid, fluff the rice gently with a fork, and stir in the fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, substitute half of the chicken broth with beef consommé.
  • If you prefer a baked version, combine all ingredients (except parsley) in a baking dish, cover tightly with foil, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 minutes.
  • Rinsing the rice before cooking can result in a less sticky texture.
