- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1.5 ounces bourbon
- 1.5 ounces Baileys Irish Cream
- Whipped cream, for topping
- Chocolate shavings, for garnish
- Combine the milk, heavy cream, chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and hot, about 5 to 7 minutes. Do not let it boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Stir in the bourbon and Baileys Irish Cream until fully combined.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs.
- Top each serving generously with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings before serving immediately.
Notes
- For a peppermint variation, substitute the Baileys with peppermint schnapps.
- You can use semi-sweet chocolate if you prefer a sweeter drink.
- Warm the mugs slightly before pouring the hot chocolate for better heat retention.
