Ingredients
Scale
4 medium baking apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 4 small pieces
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a small baking dish.
Wash the apples. Use a paring knife or apple corer to remove the core from each apple, leaving about a half-inch of flesh at the bottom so the filling stays inside. Do not cut all the way through the bottom.
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.
Place the apples in the prepared baking dish. Spoon the sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly into the center cavity of each apple.
Place one small piece of butter on top of the filling in each apple.
Pour the 1/4 cup of water into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples.
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Basting the apples with the pan liquid halfway through baking helps keep them moist.
Serve warm.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add 1/4 cup of rolled oats to the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture before stuffing.
If you prefer softer apples, cover the baking dish loosely with foil for the first 20 minutes of baking.
Use any firm apple that holds its shape well during baking.
