Make genuinely crispy breakfast potatoes in your air fryer using paprika for flavor and color. Follow these steps for perfectly cooked home fries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs Russet potatoes, peeled or unpeeled
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut the potatoes into uniform 1/2-inch cubes.
  2. Place the potato cubes in a bowl and cover them completely with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain the potatoes completely and then dry them thoroughly using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. This step is crucial for crispiness.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, sweet paprika, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add the dried potatoes to the seasoning mixture and toss until every piece is evenly coated.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  7. Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer or in a loose layer, avoiding overcrowding. Work in batches if necessary.
  8. Air fry for 15 minutes. Shake the basket well.
  9. Continue to air fry for another 5 to 10 minutes, checking frequently, until the potatoes are golden brown and very crispy on the outside.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can rinse the potatoes after soaking and dry them again before seasoning.
  • Use sweet paprika for color and smoked paprika for depth of flavor.
  • Do not skip drying the potatoes; moisture prevents crisping.
  • If you prefer a slightly spicier potato, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the seasoning mix.
